Baptiste Episode Six

Wow. The final episode of Baptiste didn't disappoint, did it?!

I'm not sure how to feel, to be honest. Part of me absolutely loved it, to the extent I don't think my eyes left the screen for the entire hour (not even to check Instagram!), but I can't help feeling slightly let down with the ending. It almost felt slightly rushed, and didn't seem to round things off as nicely as I had hoped.

Julien's son - Niels' was revealed as the one communicating with the Brigadier Serbilu, and had been feeding the Russians key information as to Baptiste's next move. Awkwardly, Julien suspected Martha of being the traitor, until it dawned on Julien to return to the creepy guy Mr Visher, who owned the basement filled with the CCTV camera surveillance footage. In this he recalled Niels' taking an odd phone call and 'rushing off', in order to return to work. Listening to the conversation, it was evident Niels' was conferring with Constantin. We see the disappointment and betrayal in Baptiste's face, and I felt so sorry for him.

Once Julien and Europol worker Genevieve Taylor located Niels in a bar, they confronted him and asked where his mother, Martha was (at yoga, it finished at 8). On the way to visit Martha, they got into an extreme car crash and chase from one of the Brigadier Serbilu members.

Once they arrive at yoga, Martha tells him that Julien is ridiculous for suspecting her, and she swiftly departs. Julien then realises that Niels would have had access to Martha's phone and could have tracked the call he placed from Edward Stratton's caravan park.

"Is it really worth it?" Genevieve asks Julien as they begin to haul out various computer monitors from the skip outside Visher's house. I bet Julien regrets advising him to throw it all away.

Genevieve and Julien raced to Martha's house to inform her of Niels' involvement, and to ask for a key for his flat. She seems hesitant, and tells them to "get a warrant". Reluctantly, she hands him the keys, and she stands outside whilst his house is raided. Baptiste opens a drawer and finds multiple phones, and races to the balcony to alert Martha who is waiting on the street below. He notices that she is on the phone, and he realises that Martha is warning Niels, who then admits to Baptiste his involvement.

Edward visits Greg, Kim Vogel's boyfriend, to discuss her previous life as Dragomir Zelincu. Greg tells Edward that he can open the envelope addressed to him, which contains phone numbers and co-ordinates. Edward races to Baptiste to hand over the vital information.

Flash forward two months, and we see Edward and Julien on a Baptiste, discussing the collection of shells.

Edward asks what the co-ordinates were for, and we see a flashback of the Police raiding the compound where the girls were being held. In a tense scene, the girls are hauled out and the men thrown to the floor with their hands behind their head. Baptiste and Genevieve enter, and ask for Christina. Slowly, a girl begins to stand and I felt so relieved that she was now safe. Moments later, those feelings were crushed. The girl states that she was friends with Natalie's sister, and that she is now gone. She was sold for 750euros.

In the final minutes of episode 6 - we see Martha meet up with her son, Niels. In an attempt to give him a new passport while he is on the run, he notices that she had set him up and brought plain clothes police. He grabs her and holds a gun to her head, and shoots it into the air. As people flee the scene, Martha can be seen rummaging in her bag for a weapon. Baptiste screams "Martha, no" but it was too late. He shot his own mother in the head, and turns the gun to Baptiste and fires it into his right arm. He is carted off to prison immediately.

There are rumours of a second season - and I'll post any official updates as soon as I get them.
