Reflective Log

Updated: Apr 26, 2019

I chose to focus my blog on Crime Dramas, where I upload regular reviews of the most current crime dramas on TV and Netflix. I created my blog on Wix, as I had used this platform before and felt comfortable with using it. I selected a template that I thought would work well with my blog, and ensured that I could change the design and layout in order to maximise interactivity. I thoroughly enjoyed customising my blog and making sure that it looked as aesthetically pleasing as possible, and suited the theme of crime drama reviews successfully.

I chose to create my blog on an extremely unstereotypical topic, as I am an avid fan of crime dramas, and have been obsessed with watching the most recent release with my family from a young age. When I was given the task of creating a blog, I just knew that I had to focus it on one of my passions. If I had decided to focus on a more stereotypical topic for my blog, I wouldn't have enjoyed the creation of Serial Blogger, and I definitely wouldn't be posting as regularly as I am.

Every element of Wix was customisable, from the background image of each page, to the font size of each piece of text. I added a menu bar where all of my blog posts were divided into categories, so the audience can easily identify and navigate a certain programme, rather than having to scroll through my plethora of blog posts.

The only downside I discovered due to using the platform Wix, was that in order to access the Insights tab and to be able to view my statistics, I would have had to upgrade to a Wix Premium account, which began at £15 a month. I then tried to access Google Analytics and link this to my blog, which also required a premium account. Although this did not allow me to discover what are the more successful elements of my blog (and the elements that weren't as successful), this appeared to be the only downside of using Wix. Although I know that in Wordpress and Weebly it is free to access statistics or to connect Google Analytics, I really enjoy using Wix as a blogging platform and the layout of my blog. I managed to counteract this to an extent, due to the fact that once an Instagram account reaches 100 followers, you can gain statistics and impressions as to what posts were interacted and engaged with the most. This is shown in my Social Media Strategy in my previous post.

Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed reviewing the different dramas on TV and Netflix; which I feel is demonstrated through the regularity of my posts. I feel as though Wix allowed me to fully customise my blog to suit my chosen theme, which I am not sure other blogging platforms such as Wordpress and Weebly would be able to demonstrate my topic as evidently.
